Our talented team of athletic performance coaches are all University and ACSA qualified. Their dedication and passion within their own varied sports backgrounds gives them first-hand understanding of the highs and lows you go through as an elite or emerging athlete, and just how hard you need to work to be the best in your field. They focus their expert knowledge and experience into helping you achieve your fullest athletic potential.
Kai Lackner
ASCA Level 2 Strength & Conditioning Coach
Originally from South Australia, Kai made the move to Sydney at 16 to pursue Rugby Union. Now with 6 years in the fitness industry accumulating impressive experience and qualifications, he's helped build Athlete Chocolate Box. Moving from a team to a coaching environment, Kai loves hard work and discipline, transferring this passion into his coaching. He is all about helping athletes reach their highest potential and working with them to achieve their unique goals whatever their sport. He's worked with a number of professional sporting teams and athletes providing him with a wealth of knowledge for all ages and levels. If you've got Kai on your team, you're going to go far and enjoy the process. You can also book in with Kai for private individual S&C sessions.
Tommy Sloot
Masters of Exercise Physiology +
ASCA Level 2 Strength & Conditioning Coach
Having a strong athletic background as a competitive 400m sprinter and long-distance runner, Tommy took his passion for sport into the strength and conditioning industry which he has been a part of for over 10 years. Tommy has worked on building himself as an established coach completing his Bachelors and Masters degree in sports and exercise science as well as exercise physiology. As an accredited level 2 ASCA coach Tommy has a huge passion for helping athletes achieve the 1%’s they need to help them stand out in their sport. Tommy has been at Chocolate Box Training and since 2018 so has been instrumental in building Motus and the Athlete Program into what it is today.
Tom Carruthers (TC)
Bachelor of Exercise Physiology
+ ASCA Level I Strength & Conditioning Coach
TC understands the physical demand from an athlete's perspective, having played rugby union and cricket at a representative level. With a degree in exercise physiology and sport science, he has worked with professional sport teams and individual athletes from Manly Warringah Sea Eagles, Sydney University Rugby League and Australian Paralympians. Currently, he is the strength & conditioning coach for Northern Tigers FC in the NPL soccer competition.
Having experienced an ACL injury and the rehabilitation process personally, he is passionate about athlete injury management and enhancing performance.
Sam Church
Doctor of Physiotherapy
+ ASCA Level I Strength & Conditioning Coach
Sam is our Athlete physio and main point of rehab referral for the athlete program. His wealth of experience has seen him work with elite athletes, sub-elite athletes, and many local weekend warriors. As our resident surf ripper and snowboarder, Sam has had his fair share of injuries and his personal experience allows him to empathise and understand the rehabilitation process. His approach to treatment is tailored to the individual with a focus on active rehabilitation and hands on therapy. Sam helps every athlete better understand their injury, where they are in the rehabilitation process and their role in achieving and surpassing their rehabilitation goals. Sam also runs our Surfing Strength Program on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. These classes are designed to improve athleticism that transfers to the water, targeting physical qualities relevant to surfing; strength, power, energy system development, mobility and injury resilience.
